2013 Auburn Tigers Football Preview

The Good: The good part is 2012 is over and a new season comes to the Plains.  With Gus Malzahn taking over as head coach, nine starters returning on defense and a new outlook on life, Auburn has a lot to feel good about.

The Bad: Auburn went winless in the SEC last year which was the firsttime they did not win a conference game since 1980.  Since the SEC went to a eight game schedule, it was their worst record since 1998 when they went 1-7.

The Ugly: The special teams were more like special needs as they were abysmal.  Punter Steve Clark averaged one yard less on his kicks, and place kicker Cody Parker did not have much of a chance to kick field goals since the Tigers were so far behind in most of their games he wasn't needed.  The special teams will have to be one of the many areas the Tigers will need to be improved.

Starters Returning: 3- Offense/9-Defense.

Schedule: Only four road games this year, but two of them are at heavyweights LSU and Texas A&M, while the other two are at two rebuilding teams, Arkansas and Tennessee.  Auburn hosts Georgia and Alabama to end the year.  Washington State, Arkansas State, Western Carolina and Florida Atlantic will do wonders for building confidence and getting the Tigers back on their feet.

Outlook: Despite a stinker last year, Auburn has recruited well the last few years and has the talent in place to return to contention.  However, depth is a concern, and that is not something you want to have on your side in the SEC West.  With Malzahn's quick paced offense, they will put up some points, and with nine starters back on defense, that means they will be a handful for 60 minutes every Saturday. You can always get current game odds at bwin.

Prediction: 6th SEC West.
