2013 LSU Tigers Football Preview

By Scott Sergent

The Good: The offensive line returns four starters, which is great news for Zack Mettenberger, who at times showed flashes of brilliance, but was inconsistent.  Having good protection will help.  New offensive coordinator Cam Cameron will get the most out of Mettenberger.  Keep an eye on stud WR Odell Beckham Jr., that guy is really good.

The Bad: Early departures to the NFL have left the Tigers with a lot of questions marks on defense.  LSU recruits as well as anyone in the country, but how soon these new players in new roles produce will determine a good year from a great year.

The Ugly: Barely nudging out Mettenberger's cheesy moustache is the fact LSU returns only three starters on defense.  One is a linebacker and two in the secondary.  That is Phyllis Diller ugly.

Starters Returning: 7 – Offense/3 - Defense.

Schedule: This year the schedule will not be nice to the Tigers.  Trips to Georgia, both Mississippi teams and the annual blood feud in Tuscaloosa will not be easy, and throw in home dates with Florida and Texas A&M and you can imagine Les Miles will have his hands full.

Outlook: LSU will be tough once again, but will drop a notch in 2013 as Texas A&M and Alabama will be the teams to beat in the West.  The defense is young and inexperienced, while nobody is sure which Zack Mettenberger will show up.  Will it be the one who tanked at Auburn, or the one who almost ended Bama's season in Baton Rouge?  Give new offensive coordinator Cam Cameron a year to shape the offense and give the defense a year to get their legs underneath them, and you will have one of the teams to beat in the SEC...next year.

Prediction: 3rd in SEC West.
