2008 - 2009 OLE MISS REBELS WOMENS BASKETBALL
The Ole Miss Rebels womens basketball team suffered a bit of a drop off last year. After coming in 2d in the SEC West in 2007 and winning 25 games, the Lady Rebels ended the '07-'08 season with a 13-16 overall and 6-8 SEC record.
Ole Miss plays seven teams this year (2008 - 2009) that received invitations to last year's NCAA Tournament.
The team opens its 2009 campaign under 2nd year head coach Renee Ladner.
The Lady Rebels had an impressive 2006-2007 season scoring a 25-11 record, and going into overtime in five games. They were 9-5 in the SEC, and ranked second in the SEC-West and fourth in the SEC overall.
They went to the SEC tournament where they beat Alabama before losing to LSU in the second round 52-46. The Rebs did well in the NCAA tournament making it to fourth round before losing to fellow SEC rivals Tennessee 98-62. The Lady Rebs did well in offense ranking first in the SEC for scoring offense.
The Lady Rebs has a strong offense but they will need to improve their defense if they want to place big in the rankings this season.
Carla Bertee will enter her Senior year with the Lady Rebs as guard-forward, and is expected to do well in her final season. The addition of coach Ladner should be beneficial to the ladies this season and they should be able to place big this year.
Although they have lost some big talent and will have to acclimate to a new coaching strategy, the Lady Rebs are still looking good for next season. They should be able to rank high in the SEC again this year, although LSU will likely stand in their way to place on top once again

The ladies of UM have been keeping busy and scoring many honors during the off-season. The team was third in steals per game, according to the NCAA Top 25 rankings. They were #10 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll and received votes on the AP National poll although they were not placed in the Top 25.
The Lady Rebs have been giving back to the community, as well, during the off-season. The ladies hosted a free weekend basketball clinic for youths on the Gulf Coast in September. They also spent time with elderly citizens and helped do handy work in areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Former Lady Reb Arminitie Price was honored recently after being named the WNBA Rookie of the Year. Price played all four years at Ole Miss and was named All-American and a big player for the Rebs. The ladies will kick off their 2007-2008 season on November 11 when they play Nebraska on the road.
