2008-2009 MISSISSIPPI STATE BULLDOGS WOMENS BASKETBALL
How bout them Lady Bulldogs!! Great job. They managed a winning record this year and a post-season bid to the WNIT. The Mississippi State women's basketball team dropped off a bit last season. After winning 19 games in '07, Ole Miss finished the 2007-2008 season with a 16-15 overall record and only 4-10 against Southeastern Conference foes.
The Mississippi State women's basketball team, which begins its 2009 season under Sharon Fanning, looks to have another good season. In fact, they are 13-3 at the moment.

Prior Discussion:
The Mississippi State Bulldogs womens basketball team has steadily improved over the last few seasons.
The Bulldogs are under the direction of head coach Sharon Fanning, who will enter her 13th season at State and is hoping to make a big impact on the SEC this season. The purported underdogs have continually fought hard to prove themselves on the court and should prove big opponents to their SEC rivals this season.
The Lady Bulldogs had a surprisingly good season in 2007 scoring a 19-14 record, and ranking third in the SEC-West and fifth in the SEC overall. They went to the SEC tournament but lost in the first round to Florida 69-63. They also played in the National Invitation Tournament where they beat out Tulane before losing to Western Kentucky in the second round 56-53.
The ladies of MSU were the underdogs going into last season with inexperienced upperclassmen and no seniors. Even with all of the obstacles, the ladies were able to hone in on their skills and pull off a good record. Sophomore Alexis Rack, who was unanimously selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team last year and two time SEC Freshman of the Week, will return this season as guard and should make some big plays for the Dogs.
Marneshia Richard will return for her junior year as guard and should be a big help to the team, especially with her three point shots.
The good news for the Dogs is that their young team from last year is one year older and has gained valuable experience on the court. This one year should be a factor in their success for the upcoming season. The Dogs should be able to place high in their SEC division and will likely do well in post-season tournaments.
The Lady Dogs have been working hard in the off-season practicing with veteran coach Fanning and developing their team further. Some MSU players have been making headlines recently and are being recognized for their stellar playing on the court. Rack was recently named to the Gballmag.com's Young All-America Women's Basketball Team.

Several Mississippi State Bulldog womens basketball players were named to the SEC academic honor roll including sophomores Richard and Lauren Roberts along with juniors Miayorka Johnson and Amy Reeder. The ladies of MSU will kick off their 2007-2008 season on November 9 when they play Southeastern Louisiana at home.
