The Auburn Tigers women's basketball team had another very solid season in 2007-2008. The Lady Tigers ended the '07-'08 season with a 20-12 overall and 7-7 SEC record. Good enough for second place in the weak SEC West. This was the second straight 20 win season for the Lady Tigers. The Auburn ladies also advanced to the second round of the SEC Tournament as well as to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time.
The 2008-09 Auburn women's basketball team has a tough schedule which includes facing eight 2008 NCAA Tournament teams. But, Nell Fortner's team, returns four starters from her 2008 NCAA Tournament team.
Prior Discussion: It's March Madness time -- even at Auburn. The Lady Tigers received a bid to the NCAA tournament. They are an 11 seed in the East.
Auburn's first (hopefully not last) game will be against the #6 seed -- George Washington. The game will played Saturday (march 22) at 2 pm -- on ESPN2. If you want tickets, check out 2008 March Madness Tickets.
The Auburn Tigers womens basketball team has won four SEC championships as well as four SEC Tournament championships during their tenure at the university.
They have been to the NCAA tournament 16 times, playing in three National Championships and only losing in the first round one time in 1982. They have also played big in the National Invitation Tournament and won the tournament in 2003. The ladies are currently under the direction of current head coach Nell Fortner who was hired in 2004. Fortner came to Auburn from Purdue and was also the head coach of the U.S. National and Olympic team.

The Tigers had a good 2006-2007 season scoring a 21-13 record, winning 6 of the 8 SEC conference games. They ranked fourth in the SEC-West and tied for sixth in the SEC overall. They made it to the SEC Tournament but lost to South Carolina in the first round 65-63.The Lady Tigers also went to the WNIT making it to the third round where they lost to Kansas State 67-54.
The Auburn Tigers womens basketball team will enter the 2007-2008 season with a lot of underclassmen on the team. Even with the youth, the Lady Tigers are bringing in a very experienced and skilled sophomore class that they are hoping will pull off several wins this season.
The team is bringing back seven players this year that include: powerhouse juniors Chantelle Blakely, Whitney Boddie, DeWanna Bonner (first-team all-SEC), KeKe Carrier, Sherrell Hobbs and two juniors Alexis Ogubie and Joanna Clayden. There are also five newcomers joining the team who hope to get some playtime this season.
DeWanna Bonner will be the big key. If she can step up and have a superstar-type year, the Tigers will have a great season. They could even challenge LSU and Tennessee. No doubt, the Auburn Lady Tigers basketball team will be a team to watch this year.
The ladies of Auburn have kept busy during the off-season and have been practicing hard to prepare for the upcoming season. Bonner has been keeping busy in the off-season playing for the USA under 21 World Championship Team. During the championship, Bonner was able to score 14 points in the finals in Moscow, in addition to several other impressive showings during other games.
The Auburn coaching staff saw a change after Daedra Charles-Furlow was named the new assistant coach. Charles-Furlow comes from Detroi-Mercy where she played for several years. Coach Fortner also added Arnika Clement to take over as the new administrative assistant after spending 15 years as athletic director at Fairfield High School.
The Lady Tigers will kick off their 2007-2008 season on November 4 when they play Carson-Newman at home.
