Do you know anything about Alabama Basketball Traditions?

In the world of college sports, it is easy to look around and find endless traditions related to football. Have you ever tried to find out what your favorite school's basketball traditions are? Well, I have and I'll tell you that they are difficult to find.

Many SEC sports traditions began on the football field, but expanded to encompass all athletics. Others are strictly football. Very few, specifically basketball-related traditions, are well publicized.

The University of Alabama, however, has several notable traditions when it comes to their basketball team. The Tuscaloosa Tip-Off Club is a booster club comprised of any Alabama basketball fans from all around the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area. This non-profit organization welcomes students, athletes, faculty, parents, other family, or just locals that love the school to participate in their program.

Alabama basketball traditions are exemplified by the Tuscaloosa Tip-Off Club. The Club's primary goal is to help provide support, both financial and as fans, to the Alabama Basketball team. They work closely with Alabama Coach Mark Gottfried to organize functions to raise money for the program. They are always recruiting, as you can never have too many boosters.

Another Alabama basketball tradition is Mark's Madness! Just the name sounds like fun, and it purpose seems to be as well. Mark's Madness is named for Coach Mark Gottfried and began in January 2000. The group is made up entirely of University of Alabama students and is an attempt to bring more excitement to the games at Coleman Coliseum. Dressing in school colors, cheering loudly, and encouraging crowd involvement, Mark's Madness makes home games more lively and the atmosphere much more fun.

The primary goal of most basketball fans is to cheer on their team and make it more difficult for the opposing team to concentrate. It may not sound very sportsmanly, true, but that's what it's about for fans at big-time college basketball games!

The members of Mark's Madness cheer, scream, and do whatever it takes to distract the opponents and boost the spirits of the Crimson Tide. The team's record of 97-15 at home games since the inception of Mark's Madness speaks for its effectiveness. It is also a great way to get the students and the rest of the crowd together cheering the Tide on.

Because basketball traditions are not as prevalent or well-known in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as SEC football traditions, you could be participating in one and just not know it. If you don't think your school has enough basketball traditions, then get one going. They all had to start somewhere!
