Gary Pinkel Biography
The Missouri football team isn't one that has come out of nowhere. It is not a bad football team. They are consistent. They will automatically be tough and annoying for the top teams in the SEC because they have a coach that has been there for a long time and has fought the battles. He simply wants things done the right way and wants to play hard and meticulously. He will make sure his players get the job done on and off the field. He is a true role model and that is no lie. This man is Coach Gary Pinkel.
Missouri will be coming off of it's 3rd ten win season in the past 4 under Pinkel. This alone would be impressive, but there is oh, so much more to talk about than just that. In 2010, they were 10-3 and they beat OU, which was a huge win for a team that seemingly came out of nowhere. You can guarantee that there is not a team in the SEC that will overlook the Tigers. The win over Oklahoma marked the schools' first ever win over a number one ranked team and sent shock waves throughout the school and made it possible to look to the future and think that there may be some better days ahead. Pinkels' hard nosed approach, along with opening up of his offense is going to fit right in with the way teams like, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, South Carolina and some others play.
Since 2003 the Tigers have only missed one bowl game. He is the first coach that Missouri to ever get into six straight bowl births. I think he has a fairly secure job for awhile as far as coaches go. His contract is not up until 2015, so he has a pretty good cusion. He's probably feeling pretty good about jumping into the SEC with the big boys and seeing what it's all about and having a much wider recruiting base. He can bring a much larger group of top notch players in to Mizzou and really compete at a top level. He won a school record 12 wins in 2007. He won the school's first New Year's day bowl since 1966. They won the first ever Big 12 North championship and sat upon the AP poll as the top team for the first time since 1960 and just because of a loss were that one game away from playing for all the marbles.
Pinkel has made it his mission to make this a winning team. He is very humble and doesn't put it on himself, but what the players do. He simply lets himself be the father figure who doesn't say much. He has been there to rebuild this program though, and the people in Missouri have sure noticed. They don't want him to go any time soon. They would like very much if he finished out his career right there with the Tigers as they venture off into this new conference of the SEC.
