2007 - 2008 Auburn Basketball
Auburn Tigers basketball has been under reconstruction in recent years under the direction of head coach Jeff Lebo, who joined the team in the spring of 2004. A quick summary of Auburn Tigers basketball history shows they have been to the NCAA tournament eight times; the NIT tournament five times; and, won the SEC tournament in 1985.
Auburn had an unlucky season last year, finishing with an 18-16 record. They were in a three-way tie for third place in the SEC West. However, they lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to Georgia 80-65. But, Auburn b-ball had big wins over nationally ranked Alabama and Tennessee, proving their power on the court.
For the 2007 - 2008 season, Auburn basketball returns all five of their starters after one of the best seasons in Auburn basketball history, having nearly won the SEC West division last year.
Senior Quan Prowell had a great season, averaging twelve points per game and 5.3 rebounds. Frank Tolbert and Korvotney Barber were also key players last season, averaging over eleven points each. Barber, who was also named SEC Player of the Week two times, also scored high in average rebounds and blocks last season.
The men of Auburn have been busy over the summer, playing in several games on the road. The Tigers traveled to Cancun in August where they played against teams in the Mexican Liga Nacional de Balonceston Profesional. Both Prowell and Lucas Hargrove played well in the exhibition games, scoring eighteen points each.
Prediction: The Tigers are likely to be stronger than last year due to their additional experience and maturity. They have a good shot at winning the SEC West division (although we think they'll end up 3rd) and will surely make it into March Madness 2008.
