Robin Pingenton Biography

Robin Pingenton was named the new head coach for the Missouri Lady Tigers women's basketball team on April 8, 2010 by Director of Athletics Mike Alden. She came from Illinois State where she was the head coach for seven years. The Director of Athletics stated that she would fit in and give the team a boost as far as the way they behaved on and off the court and that she would be there for the team as they needed her. Pingenton seemed very excited about her new job, just maybe a bit home sick, but you could tell she was ready to get on the floor and get basketball operations under way. She was honored to be in Missouri and excited to get the chance to be a Tiger.

She got Illinois State to two NCAA Tournaments, three WNIT spots, four 20 win seasons, at one point had three straight Missouri Valley Conference titles, and two Start Farm Missouri Valley Tournament championships. In the past season she got them to their 3rd straight regular season title and the semifinals of the WNIT. They even beat Kansas. They won 28 games. She won the Missouri Valley Women's Coach of the Year Award. She also was at Iowa State for three seasons.

When Pingenton got the Redbirds to the 16-13 mark after seven consecutive losing seasons she received the Missouri Valley Coach of the Year Award. The year after that they were already in the NCAA tournament. Pingenton herself was a good player as she was St. Ambrose all-time scoring leader with 2,502 points, and was an All-American in that and softball as well as playing three seasons of professional basketball. She has seen and done a lot, she was an assistant in the Big 12 with Iowa State in 2001-2003 when they were very successful. Pingenton is married to Rich Pingenton and has a son Blake.

To make it in SEC women's basketball you have to have certain charismatic characteristics about you and this coach does. She's got the personality and the game plan for it. She just seems to have what it takes if you ask me. I don't know if she has the team to compete right now, but she will with the tools she will find she has in our region, but she will get all of this and more. She wants to win, has the drive, has she smarts and has the court knowledge to get it done.

My main problem in writing bios is I find coaches who don't seem to have a personality, a style, something that is unique to them. You have to have that. Calipari has it. Anderson has it. Summit has it. Sabin has it. It is just something that makes you who you are and if the coach doesn't have it then I don't think they can win, this lady has it and I think that she will come out on top more often than not. SEC championship in 5 years.
