Preview of SEC Teams in 2012 Womens College World Series

The No. 2 seed Crimson Tide will open up tournament play against No. 7 seed and SEC foe Tennessee, the winner of the Knoxville Super Regional, at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday. Alabama got the win against Michigan to get into the final group by a walk off triple. It is the second time in two years the team has had the fortitude to pull through at the end with such heroics.

Alabama has seven players that hit .300 or better in their starting lineup. They put it in play and have one player with 20 home runs as well. Now to defeat a Tennessee team with experience against them they will need to pull out all of the stops. Tennessee defeated another SEC team to get into the WCWS in Georgia. They are not a team to be overlooked. They had 52 wins on the season.

Tennessee has a leadoff hitter hitting over .400 on the season that gets that engine running with three other players batting over .300 after her. They have great pitching and will wow you with their glove work. This is the Programs fifth time to make it this far and they will not go quietly.

LSU (39-23) makes its third WCWS appearance and first since 2004 after defeating No. 9 seed Missouri in the Columbia Super Regional. The Tigers will play No. 1 seed California at 2:30 pm CT on Thursday. The simple fact is that Cal is the best team in the nation and has been all year and LSU will have their hands full.

Cal has good defense and hits the ball harder than anyone else. It will take a great deal of intestinal fortitude to get by Cal and then on through and win this thing. LSU only had 39 wins on the season and is certainly one of the underdogs here. They slipped through Missouri in the Super Regional and have made it by grinding out games, but they are good enough to win. Don’t ever sleep on this team. LSU basically does everything with pitching and defense. They have one player hitting above .300, but she has very few at bats.

The SEC is well represented here and will be proud of the three teams that have fought so hard to get here and will hopefully be able to fight to get into the next part and one of these three groups of women will win the whole thing.
