Week Four SEC Softball Power Rankings
Weekly thoughts from left field…
ESPN.com has finally caught on to what I have been preaching all season here and that is the Florida Gators are the best softball team playing right now. They have the best pitching in the conference, even though they are going with mainly two pitchers. They are solid offensively and play good defense. I know they are going to have their stumbling blocks in conference play, but it will be fun to watch and see if the Crimson Tide or Georgia can unseat the Gators at the top.
Once again, the top three teams in the country are from the SEC, though the seeding as changed just a bit. The #1 ranking now belongs to the Florida Gators while Alabama has slipped to #2 and Georgia fell to #3 in the country. It looks like this order will be the pecking order in the SEC as well this season.
SEC play begins this weekend and the toughest opening for anyone has to belong to the #21 ranked LSU Tigers, who host #1 ranked Florida for a doubleheader to start the season on Wednesday and then must travel to Athens to face #2 ranked Georgia for a three game set over the weekend. We will find out what the Tigers are made up of real quick this season.
Another interesting opening weekend SEC series will pit #8 ranked Tennessee visiting #23 ranked Kentucky. The Lady Vols have won 11 straight games going in to this three game weekend series while the Wildcats are currently second in the conference behind Florida in pitching. Lady Vols are among the best offensive clubs in the league. Something will have to give when these two clash.
Its going to be another great SEC softball season so, everyone get out to the games and enjoy some of the best softball being played in the country and cheer on your favorite squads as the SEC shots for it first ever National Champions this year… Play Ball!!!
