Preview of SEC Teams in 2012 College World Series

Florida (42-18) opens play against Bethune-Cookman (34-25) on Friday. Florida grabbed the top seed. They are a tough team and everybody knows that they are the favorites by far in this tournament. Florida has been ranked at the top almost the whole year and they are by far the best team in the country, now it’s time to execute.

LSU (43-16) takes on Louisiana-Monroe (31-28) in the opening game of the Baton Rouge Regional. LSU has been one of the front runners for the better part of the year and should get their regional fairly safely. Their bats will keep them alive through anything.

The Gamecocks will host the Columbia Regional, beginning on Friday. South Carolina (40-17) opens defense of its title against Manhattan (33-25) on Friday. The Gamecocks have Championship pedigree and experience so don’t count them out. They will be a team to look out for.

Kentucky (43-16) opens regional action against Kent State (41-17) on Friday. Many people saw Kentucky as a favorite this year so don’t be surprised if they come out firing during the tournament.

Mississippi State played very well in the Conference tournament and got themselves into the regionals. The Bulldogs (39-22) are in the Tallahassee Regional, where they open play against Samford (39-21). The Dogs will look to ride the wave of positive momentum.

Vanderbilt, the runner-up in the SEC Tournament, also got a number two seed in the regional round. The Commodores (33-26) will face UNC-Wilmington (38-21) on Friday in the Raleigh Regional. Vanderbilt can pitch well and hit the ball all around the park so if teams don’t respect them they will get burned.

The Razorbacks (39-19) travel to Houston, where they will meet Sam Houston State (38-20) on Friday. Rice is the top seed in the Houston Regional. The Hogs are a young team who were expected to do great things this year. They didn’t live up the hype, but this is the time of the year when such a team could get hot.

The Ole Miss Rebels (35-24) will face second-seeded TCU (36-19) on Friday in the College Station Regional. Ole Miss can be tricky because you don’t know which Ole Miss will show up from one game to the next.
