If Manziel hasn't had enough publicity this offseason, this story will for sure lead to outright criticism and disapproval of the young red-shirt sophomore quarterback. Manziel is reportedly being investigated by the NCAA for possible violations concerning profits he made off of autographs signed at the BCS National Championship game this past season.
I don't understand what would make this young man, who comes from a wealthy family, want to risk his college career for extra cash. He is one of the most exciting college players we have seen over the years and his speed and athleticism could have led him to a second Heisman trophy this coming season. But now his eligibility for the season will be determined by the NCAA at the conclusion of this ongoing investigation.
I still believe in Manziel as a player, but I'm not sure that this Texas A&M has the firepower roster to succeed in the SEC without Manziel. If “Johnny Football” doesn't play this season it leaves the Aggies with inexperience at quarterback, which isn't a good thing to have considering the teams the Aggies will play this season.
Having said that I believe in Manziel as a player, I think that if he were to be eligible for this season he will shut his critics up on the field. I'm not saying the guy is going to win the Heisman again, but even with a target on his back I think he will have another successful season.
I don't think he has lost it all yet, but if he doesn't keep his head behind the white lines and out of the media, he could end up being one of the biggest wastes of talent the game has seen in a while.
