Great Debate but what about the other college football powerhouses?

by Bwear
(United States (Union))

I'm a Big 10 fan and also a admirer of great football TEAMS! Conferences....could care less about.

The best football teams of all time:

Notre Dame
Michigan
Ohio State
Miami, FL
USC
Penn State
Alabama
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Florida State

Not necessarily in that order...

Notice...only 1 SEC team...hmm?

TUNNEL VISION

Grab your left ear with your right hand, your right ear with your left hand and pull your head out. The Big 10 is living on momentum built up a long time ago. According to your listing, there are about 10 states in the union playing college football. When Michigan starts running the spread/option offense under their new coach, maybe the conference will be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

ah! how could i have ever thought of that
by: Anonymous

YES! we should go with all time stats!
cause that is what matters now!

yankees now > boston red sox present
the celtics of the 90's > bulls of the 90's

so wait...with your logic...since Robert Horry has won more rings then Karl Malone, Horry is better right?

Source?
by: David

Who says those are the best programs? What’s your source/basis? I'm not trying to argue which conference is best (it depends how you define best) but I do challenge your post of the best programs.

Winning percentage is a pretty good measure of success. According to www.football.stassen.com, top 10 in all-time winning percentage are:

1. Michigan (B10)
2. Notre Dame (Ind)
3. Texas (B12)
4. Ohio State (B10)
5. Oklahoma (B12)
6. Alabama (SEC)
7. Southern California (P10)
8. Nebraska (B12)
9. Tennessee (SEC)
10. Penn State (B10)

The next 10 are:
11. Florida State (ACC)
12. Georgia (SEC)
13. Louisiana State (SEC)
14. Miami Florida (ACC)
15. Miami Ohio (MAC)
16. Auburn (SEC)
17. Florida (SEC)
18. Washington (P10)
19. Arizona State (P10)
20. Central Michigan (MAC)

So in top 10/20 you have:
• B10 – 3/3
• B12 – 3/3
• SEC – 2/6
• P10 – 1/3
• Ind – 1/1
• ACC – 0/2
• MAC – 0/2

If anything this confirms that, historically, the Big 12 and Big 10 are dominated more by their top teams and that the SEC is deeper and more competitive at the top.

It’s interesting to note that if you look at the actual percentages there is a bit of a gap between 11 and 12 and between 2 and 3. At last years loss rate, Notre Dame's percentage is dropping relatively fast, away from Michigan and towards Texas.
