2008 Florida Gators Swimming and Diving

Florida Gators men's Swimming and Diving team displayed good performance in 2007 and 2008. The team finished 4th in the 2007 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship.

The team also earned second-place at 2007 SEC Championship with league crowns in the 400 IM and 200 free. In 2008 the team secured an eighth place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships with a total of 210 points. And the position at SEC was 2nd .The Florida Gators' Clark Burckle broke the school record in the 200 breaststroke in 2008. Under the head coach Gregg Troy, the Florida Gators looks strong for the next season.

Florida Gators Swimming and Diving is arguably the second best in the SEC (clearly behind #1 Auburn).

The Gators Men's team finished 4th in the 2007 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship. The Gator Women finished 7th. Currently, both Florida Swimming and Diving teams are ranked 6th nationally.

The Florida Gators swimming and diving teams began the 2007-08 season in high spirits. The team started out with a tough schedule, traveling to Virginia and Minnesota. Their head coach, Gregg Troy, wanted to see how the team would handle such situation at the beginning of the season. Following that, they met the Michigan Wolverines at home. This meet was featured by Swimming World Magazine as the "Swim Meet of the Week".

The meet in Charlottesville, Virginia proved to be a victory for the Florida Gators swimming and diving women's team. The Gators defeated the Cavaliers solidly, outscoring them 169 to 126 and finishing first in eleven events. Gregg Troy, the Head Coach, was pleased with the results, but felt that there are still areas where the team is quite weak. He also expressed approval of the freshmen members of the team, with Monica Dodson placing first in both 1 meter and 3 meter diving events.

The Gator's men's team did equally well, beating the Cavaliers 162-133 and finishing first in 10 events. The meet was definitely a good one for the Gators and was a great season opener.

After the victory in Virginia, the team traveled to Minneapolis, Minnesota to meet with the University of Minnesota Gophers. The meet proved to be a successful one after the Gators pulled themselves together at the end, reversing what might have been a win for Gophers. The Florida Gators swimming and diving men's team finished in the lead, 158 to 142, taking nine first places. The women's team did even better, scoring 168-132 with 12 first place events.

The winning streak did not last long, however, as the teams met at home with Michigan Wolverines for a two-day meet. The first day ended with mixed results, with Florida Gators swimming and diving women's team leading 96 to 49 and the men's team trailing behind Michigan 86-59. The trend continued during the second day, ending with a win for the women's team, 354 to 285. However, the men's team never did make up for the first day and finished with a score of 272, handing the victory to Wolverines with 326 points.

Following the mixed results with Michigan, the team traveled to Athens, Georgia to meet with Bulldogs. The Florida Gators women's team lost its lead early during the meet and did not recover, losing their perfect record up to this point. They finished with the score of 95, far behind the University of Georgia's 148. The men's team, on the other hand, bounced back from the previous defeat at the hands of Michigan to place first in five events and ending with a score of 132-111. Gregg Troy was pleased with both of his teams, praising the women and the men alike.

Florida Gators swimming and diving women's team had another meet on the 1st of November in Lexington, Kentucky, while the men's team will meet the Wildcats a little later in November. Undeterred by the loss to Bulldogs, the women's team took another victory, scoring 167-132 and handsomely defeating the Wildcats, placing first in 9 events.
