Ohio State lost at home to a 6-6 Michigan State team in 1998. Florida state lost at NC state. They beat 4 ranked teams that season, including a blowout over #4 Florida. Plus, Ohio State's loss was too late in the season for them to recover in the polls.
It is a shame that the BCS didn't exist in 1997. If it did, then the public could have seen Nebraska roll up Michigan and wipe them off of their cleats like little clumps of mud.
You complain about the rematch between Florida and FSU in '96, but that's exactly what everyone in the Big-10 wanted in 2006 with OSU and Michigan. Then OSU was beaten down by Florida.
I agree that the way to settle this is a playoff. Maybe that would finally shut the Myopic 10 fans up.
