The Alabama Crimson Tide Track and Field men's team has two very impressive athletes who have been making major headlines in the Track and Field world. Emmanuel Bor and Augustus Maiyo both were participants in the World University Games which took place in Bangkok, Thailand this year. Bor, a sophomore on the team, set a person record in the finals which earned him a fourth place position with the time of 3:41:65. Bor had already set a personal record running the 1,500 meters that put him in his spot in the finals.
Bama's Bor had a stellar freshman year in the sport with the Southeastern Conference's Freshmen of the Year, and SEC's champion for indoors with the mile run, three NCAA National Qualifiers, two All-Regional, and three All-SEC honors.
Maiyo, who is a junior on the team, finished fifth place with a time of 8:35:13 in the steeplechase 3,000 meter run. As a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide track and field men's team, Maiyo has gained several honors in his two years. Maiyo has been a NCAA All-American, an NCAA National Qualifier four times, three times an All-Regional, the 2007 Mideast Regional Champion, Southeastern Conference Champion, and 2006 Cross country Freshman of the Year.
Both athletes will continue on with the Crimson Tide track and field men's team for the 2007 season.

Last Season's Discussion:
The Alabama Crimson Tide Women's Track and Field team has just as strong a team of athletes. They include freshmen Kimberly Laing and the sixty four team members which were awarded Southeastern Conference Academic Honors.
Laing participated in the Pan-American Junior Championships, which took place in Sao Paul, Brazil and won the bronze medal for her efforts. Earlier this year the freshman Alabama Crimson Tide track and field woman's team member won the Jamaican Junior National Championship for the 100 meter hurdles. Laing's time for the Pan-American Junior Championships was 13.85, which is her second best personal time in the span of her career. The qualifying time, which earned her a place on Team Jamaica for the Pan-American Junior Championships, was 13.67 at the Jamaican Junior National Championships.
The Tide's track and field women's team had 12 members awarded for academic excellence by the Southeastern Conference. In order to be granted this aware an athlete must maintain a 3.0 average while being on the team and hold that team position for the entirety of the NCAA Championship.
Out of the entire University the team had the second largest percentage of it's athletes earning the Southeastern Conference Academic Honors. With a total of 18.7% the only other team within the University to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide track and field women's team was the Alabama Crimson Tide track and field men's team with 14 athletes being selected.
