Until each team in each conference plays each time in all of the other conferences, there is no way to determine the best team. The argument that I get all of the time against PAC 10 football is "they don't play anybody".
Let's assume that the season permitted each team to play each team in every conference. Who would be the National Champion?
Or if that isn't feasible, then suppose the "best" team in each conference played the "best" team in all other conferences. Who would be the National Champions?
Back in 1961 a young man in Hammond Indiana by the name of Sullivan figured out a complicated system using credits for most first downs, most points scored, most interceptions, least yards given up, winning against someone higher on the list, etc. It was the best system I have ever seen for determining the "best" football team. National Championship shouldn't be decided by a bunch of "wannabee" writers who never played the game of football.
Sullivan, if you are out there, good luck to you and I hope you are still beating the odds in the football pools.
