The SEC's long history of providing stellar quarterbacks to the NFL

The curtain came down on the 2022 NFL season at Super LVII on February 12th. At Glendale’s State Farm Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs managed to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles to pick up their second Lombardi Trophy in the last four seasons.

The Chiefs had been made slight favorites heading into the contest by OddsChecker, which compares NFL odds and free offers online. And with the incomparable Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, it’s clear to see why. The former Texas Tech standout picked up the MVP award as his side won by a score of 38-35.

While neither Mahomes nor Jalen Hurts plied their college trade in the SEC, the conference has produced one quarterback that starred this season. Dak Prescott led his Dallas Cowboys to the divisional round for the first time in four years. The former Mississippi State Bulldog was one of the best quarterbacks in the league this year, and he is the latest in a long line of SEC QBs that have starred in the NFL.

The Manning Brothers

One could argue that the finest quarterbacks to ever come out of the SEC are the Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli. The former managed to pick up two Super Bowl victories throughout his storied career. He led the Indianapolis Colts to a 29-17 victory over the Chicago Bears at Super Bowl XLI in 2007. He then led the Denver Broncos to a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at Super Bowl 50. He picked up the MVP award in the first of those successes and has won the regular season NFL MVP award on five separate occasions.

The younger Eli Manning also picked up two Super Bowl victories throughout his storied career, however, his victories came in shocking fashion. Manning and his New York Giants stunned the previously unbeaten New England Patriots at Super Bowl XLII, one year on from his brother's maiden success. He would repeat the feat four years later, again defeating the Patriots at Super Bowl XLVI.

Super Cam

The Carolina Panthers team that was defeated by Peyton Manning's Broncos at Super Bowl 50 also had an SEC standout at quarterback, namely Cam Newton. Prior to his recent injury woes, Super Cam - as he’s affectionately known - was one of the finest quarterbacks in the entire league. He picked up the MVP award in 2015 and looked as though he was set to have a long and successful career at the very top of the game. Recent injury issues have seen him released by the Panthers, however, and at the culmination of the 2022 season, he remains a free agent.
