Last week, the featured game across all of college football was Alabama versus Florida. The number one ranked team in the country got off to a quick start, putting Florida in a 21-3 hole at home after the first quarter. As the Gators began their comeback, the game starting living up to its hype. Getting to within two at 31-29 late in the game, the Gators two-point try to tie came up short. Alabama prevailed in the first conference game of the season to remain undefeated at 3-0.

There’s no doubt that Florida had significant boost from the home crowd, but is Florida really that good or has Alabama taken a step back after losing six players in the first round of the NFL Draft this past spring. On the other hand, Florida lost key players as well, such as tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Kadarius Toney. Remaining upbeat, safety Trey Dean boasted that his Gators would win the SEC East, despite losing the game. Zach Carter also got in on the act, stating that the Gators had the top defensive line in college football. Despite the prognostication by Dean, Lines has Florida as only the 14th best NCAAF odds to win the title at +6600.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide has the top odds, along with Georgia at +200. They are likely to be dominant at home this weekend against Southern Miss, who enters at 1-2, third in the Conference USA West.

The Ole Miss Running Rebels are loading up after improving to 3-0 with 40-point win over Tulane. Ranked 13th in the country and 2nd in the SEC West, the Running Rebels are led by quarterback Matt Corral, who is emerging as a Heisman Trophy favorite. He has already thrown for nearly 1000 yards and nine touchdowns, adding an additional five touchdowns on the ground. He’s at 7-4 odds to win the Heisman, followed by Bryce Young of Alabama at 3-1, and DJ Daniels of Georgia at 18-1. With a week off, Ole Miss has plenty of time to gear up and stay fresh when they take on Alabama on October 2.

Last season, Alabama won in a shootout, 63-48. However they did so with Mac Jones at quarterback, Najee Harris at running back and DaVonta Smith at wide receiver. Jones is not throwing passes in the NFL for the Patriots, Harris is piling up yards for the Steelers, and Smith is catching passes in Philadelphia form former teammate Jalen Hurts.

There is a legitimate case to be made for the Running Rebels to pull of a potential upset. They are currently at +5000 odds to win the National Champsionship. Clemson is the other SEC team with some of the top odds, coming in at +300.
