SEC in Discover Card Fan Loyalty Poll
Some of you may have wondered what that Discover Card "Official Correspondent" badge at the bottom of the left column of the site is about. Well, for the rest of the season, we'll be covering the Discover Card Fan Loyalty Poll and commenting on the Southeastern Conference football aspects of it -- "officially." You'll be able to find links to all our articles about it here. It looks to be a fun series of articles -- at least if this first one is any indication.
We are in the thick of a Presidential campaign so Discover Card commissioned a polling firm -- Rasmussen Reports -- to do a poll this past week, asking college football fans which Presidential candidate they'd most want to sit next to during a football game. And, guess who won? Mitt Romney. Overall, 53% said they'd rather sit next to Mitt; 42% would rather sit with Barack.
But, among SEC fans, the gap was wider -- 58% to 34%. In fact, Romney had more support in the SEC than any other conference. However, when the question was which candidate should buy a round of drinks -- the Big East led the way with 58% choosing Romney. You can see all the numbers on the graphic below.
Of course, those of you who closely follow politics may know that Rasmussen is the official pollster for Fox News -- so, maybe that explains why Romney won. Or maybe not.
Anyway, as for ranking football teams, as we'd expect, the SEC led the way with 3 of the top 7 teams, including Alabama a strong #1. There's no doubting the credibility of that result.
And, that's it for this week. Feel free to comment below if you have comments. Otherwise, check back in a week for our next installment of the Discover Card Fan Loyalty Poll.
