Favourite Postponed claimed victory in the Juddmonte International at York's Ebor Festival this past week, in what was a sixth straight win for the Roger Varian trained five-year-old. Having been backed heavily in the horse racing betting among bookmakers pre-race, jockey Andrea Atzeni saw Postponed home ahead of Highland Reel by a length and a quarter, with Mutakayyef finishing in third. It was an action packed weekend of action at York, with competition for places in the Nunthorpe Stakes, Lowther Stakes and Ebor Handicap among others.
Mecca's Angel claimed victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes for a second successive year in York, another success for trainer Michael Dods, and owner David Metcalfe. Mecca's Angel was the 2/1 favourite in the horse racing betting from bookmakers Coral pre-race having ranked on par with the greats this year, and certainly did not disappoint, finishing ahead of Limato and Take Cover in second and third respectively. Meanwhile in the Lowther Stakes, Champion racehorse turned stallion Frankel continued the prolific start to his stud career as daughter Queen Kindly claimed victory. Having been given odds of 9/2 by Coral in the build-up, the Richard Fahey trained folly saw off stiff competition from the likes of Roly Poly and Fair Eva to claim another famous win.
Finally, Jockey Adam McNamara landed his biggest prize to date in the much anticipated Ebor Handicap, steering Heartbreak City to victory on Saturday. The 19-year-old Irish apprentice enjoyed a runaway four-length success on the Tony Martin-trained 15-2 shot with Coral, ahead of Shrewd and Quick Jack.
As for Postponed, the Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe at Chantilly looks set to be
the next port of call for the in-form five-year-old, with Varian's prized asset already installed as the 4/1 favourite in the horse racing betting odds from Coral for the race. However, the likes of Harzand and Minding look set to provide stiff competition, in what could well be one of the races of the year. A run at the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leapardstown on September 10th could well act as a warm-up event for Postponed, and with Harzand currently the 2/1 favourite with Coral for the race, should fans a good indication of the duo's form heading to France.
