There were years when my dear golden domers would have been greatly favored in a big bowl game -- much less a minor bowl like the Sun Bowl. Now they are underdogs to Miami (who has also had better days).
There were also years where this would have been a dream game. Unfortunately Notre Dame has lost it's shine. They are no longer the team they once where. They had to schedule a cupcake schedule this year in order to even make a bowl game. If they played in even a decent conference they would not have won enough games to qualify for the playoffs this year.
The Irish just seem horrible of late and no coach seems to be able to do anything. Sure, they may get this thing turned around with a few more years to recruit, but what has changed since Lou Holtz was coaching? I just don't see it? Nothing is any different than we have seen it. They have the same campus, same facilities, same tradition, same everything.
The thing is, it's harder to get through school academically and kids don't want to hear that. They don't want to know that they're going to have to spend all of this time studying and not be able to have any money either.
I think it's an injustice what we do to these kids anyway, but that's besides the point. If Notre Dame is going to improve, they're going to have to offer some things in the classrooms for these kids to get help or something. They are going to have to be creative and do something different than they have been doing; maybe different than anyone else is doing.
