John Wall Biography
John Wall was born in Raleigh, NC on September 6th, 1990. A basketball phenomenon starting in his middle school years, Wall led his high school squad to the state championship in 2008 and was a projected top 5 pick in the 2009 draft before being declared ineligible due to age and college entrance requirements. Moreover, Wall was involved in an altercation and attempted robbery and, though he avoided jail time, questions arose about his maturity level. As a result, Wall opted to play for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Despite being a one year wonder, Wall was a diligent worker and impressive performer during his lone college season. Inheriting a Kentucky team that was NIT-bound after a disastrous 2009 season, Wall and heralded freshman forward DeMarcus Cousins led the Wildcats to a 35-3 record and a NCAA tournament first seed.
The 2009 - 2010 Kentucky Wildcats Basketball squad was amazing in both its youth and talent. Freshman John Wall played Point Guard. Other freshmen on the team were Eric Bledsoe, DeMarcus Cousins and Daniel Orton. Patrick Patterson was a Junior. All 5 of them were selected in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft. So, 5 players from one team all going in the first round of the NBA draft. Amazing and something that has never happened before.
Wall led the 2009 - 2010 UK Wildcat team to the most dramatic turnaround in NCAA history and in recognition of his achievements Wall was recognized as the 2010 SEC Basketball Player of the Year and a first team All American. However, despite the team’s glittering regular season record, the Wildcats were upset in the NCAA tournament Elite Eight.

Following Kentucky’s NCAA tournament loss, Wall declared for the 2010 NCAA draft. Though much of the draft remained in flux up until draft night, Wall was the consensus number one pick from the lottery onward and was selected first overall by the Washington Wizards on June 24th, 2010. He is expected to anchor the Wizards backcourt for the foreseeable future, and is the centerpiece of their rebuilding effort.
Ultimately, John Wall’s career has barely begun. His future greatness, or potential for greatness, still beckons in the future. However, his incredible one year career at Kentucky suggests that the young Wizards point guard is destined for great things….and we will certainly all be watching. There's no doubt that John Wall is one of the greats of the many greats in Kentucky Basketball History.
