The last few years of college football have been overshadowed by the dominance of one conference: the SEC. Other conferences, such as the ACC, have been overlooked and assumed to be not as strong. A closer look at the ACC will show that the conference is not as weak as advertised, making it good to bet on your college football odds in the future.
The ACC performed very well on an individual level this year. Florida
State quarterback Jameis Winston took home many awards including the
Heisman and the Davey O'Brien.
Pittsburgh defensive lineman Aaron Donald also had a very good year, taking home the Outland and Bednarik awards.
Andre
Williams, running back for Boston College, won the Doak Walker award
after rushing for 2,177 yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior campaign.
Actually
that wasn't all the awards ACC players took home this season. A pair of
Florida State players also took home the Lou Groza and Rimington
awards.
Well now we know the ACC has good players, but does it have the teams?
Eleven
of the fourteen teams in the conference played in bowl games. We even
saw Duke almost beat Texas A&M, who is one of the top teams in the
nation's best conference.
Two squads were slated to take part in
BCS bowls. Clemson beat Ohio State Friday night in a big win for the
ACC. Monday night Florida State will look to take down the best team in
the SEC in Auburn.
Florida State has been the most dominant team in college football this year. This team plays very physical and can beat you on either side of the ball. It has players at every position that will likely be playing on Sundays in coming years.
The Seminoles are the type of team one would expect to see in the SEC, with a physical defense and the ability to pound the running game.
The point I am trying to make here is that the ACC is not as bad as it is projected. I realize that the SEC is the best conference in college football and the Pac-12 is a close second. I think the ACC stacks up very well against the likes of other conferences though such as the Big Ten, American Athletic, and the Big 12.
So why the ACC might not have the respect of the college football world just yet, it is rising and will look to put itself on the map in the next couple of years.
