First Round NFL Picks by Conference Average

Taking the average for each Conference (since conferences vary in the amount of teams), the numbers look like this:

It doesn't make sense to look at conference totals,

unless you look at totals after the last conference shift. What you are doing is like looking at a pitchers WHIP after only a few pitches.

Here are the total first round picks per conference since 2004, when the conferences last realigned.

SEC - 52
ACC - 48
BIG 10 - 35
BIG 12 - 33
PAC 10 - 23
OTHERS - 16
BIG EAST - 12

The averaging thing doesn't make sense either. A better way is to take the average and multiply by 12 so that it is standardized, as if every conference had 12 teams. Here is the standardized totals.

SEC - 52
ACC - 48
BIG 10 - 38.16
BIG 12 - 33
PAC 10 - 27.6
BIG EAST - 18
OTHERS - 3.4

Others is so low because there are 55 non-BCS conference, so their average was .29 players per team.

I think as long as the SEC has a media fix (ESPN) and it keeps adding teams, it will close the gap.
