Last season was a very interesting one to say the least for fans of the LSU Tigers football team. Close wins and two losses in triple overtime kept fans of the team on the edge of their seats. All that was culminated with a huge win over OSU in the BCS National championship game.
Yeah it was a great ride but by no means are we fans satisfied. In fact we are looking for much the same in the 2008 season. Well at least the end results anyways.
However things will be a lot harder this time around. Gone are the likes of Glen Dorsey, the most decorated player in LSU history. Also the loss of some other key players due to graduation and one to ignorance(Ryan Perrilloux) from the 2007 squad will make things a whole lot tougher for the defending NC Tigers.
Make no mistake about it though this seasons Tigers are no slouch. DT Rickey Jean-Francois should fill the void left by Dorsey and with DE Kirston Pittman still around the LSU defense should still be one of the top in the nation.
As for those who are wondering about the offense and in particular the QB situation. Don't forget that this unit returns a whole lot of talent at both the WR and RB position. All the unexperienced QB's have to do is play with as little mistakes as possible and get the ball into the playmakers hands.
So while most everyone is ready to annoint another team in the SEC as it's eventual conference champion and possible NC, I'm not ready to do the same.
Sure Florida,Georgia,Auburn and Tenn. all have great teams but none more than LSU in my honest opinion. The Tigers are just as good and loaded with talent as any of the teams in this great conference. How that translates to wins remains to be seen.
It's tough to come out the SEC pretty unscathed but LSU has as good a chance as anyone. The schedule is tough but so is Georgia's and most talking heads are ready to hand them the coaches trophy already.
I think LSU may have a thing or two to say about that when they visit "Death Valley." So go ahead and write us off if you like. You may end up looking foolish and crow is a bitter dish to swallow.
