Time to update this page since we have new teams joining the SEC in 2012. They are Texas A&M (for sure) and Missouri (likely).
Texas A&M University (often referred to as A&M or TAMU) is a coeducational public research university located in College Station, Texas. A&M has twenty sports teams and their nickname is the "Aggies." Their team colors are maroon and white (similar to Miss. State). And, I'm not sure the origins of those colors. But, if anyone knows, please post a comment below.
Missouri
The University of Missouri is also a public research university. It was founded in 1839 and its flagship location is Columbia, Missouri. It was the first public institution of higher education west of the Mississippi River. The Missouri Tigers (just like Texas A&M) were members of the Big 12 Conference before jumping to the SEC. The tigers colors are black and gold. Again, I'd love to know more about the story behind the colors, so if you know, please share with a comment. Thanks!
