Alex Smith can Deliver
It's hard to believe that there was a time when the San Francisco 49ers got rid of Alex Smith because they thought Colin Kaepernick was their quarterback of the future. However, the hurler who was once dismissed as a "game manager" is now one of the most gifted offensive stars remaining in the AFC playoffs. He doesn't just complete key passes down the field with his accurate arm, though. He can take off and run when the situation dictates -- and only three other quarterbacks had more rushing yards than he did this season. He completed key pass after pass against the Texans, not needing to take to his feet as often as he has earlier in the season.

Look at the Trends Down the Stretch
The New England Patriots lost their last two games, including a disappointing finale against the Miami Dolphins. Their offensive line is patchwork, and they have numerous injuries on both sides of the ball. The Kansas City Chiefs have now won 11 straight games (10 in the regular season plus the wild card win), and I like them to carry that confidence and momentum over to the next round.

History has its Limits
Yes, the Patriots have been to Super Bowl after Super Bowl in the Belichick-Brady era. Yes, the Chiefs have been awful in the postseason, and Andy Reid has a history of making terrible decisions down the stretch in terms of clock management in tight games. However, the injuries on the Pats' side of the ball -- and the dominance that the Chiefs are showing on both offense and defense -- make the Chiefs the real favorite to come out of the AFC at this point.

What About Jeremy Maclin?
If you're just about sold on the Chiefs for Super Bowl 50, give it a day or two to wait to find out about the injury report on Maclin, who went down with a knee injury in the wild card game. The odds should not shift all that much between now and then, and you'll find out about a key contributor to the Chiefs' offense.
