The year was 1997, Georgia was in their second season with head coach Jim Donnan. The date was November 1st against Florida. The Bulldogs started the season 4-0 until they met Tennessee. Georgia lost to Tennessee in Knoxville 38-13, and then they won the next two games.
Florida who haven't lost to Georgia since 1989, was going to see something different in this game. Florida was 6-1 going into the game, with only one lost. The Gators lost to LSU in October, then they beat Auburn. Florida was off the week before the Georgia game. Georgia came in the game with a two game winning streak. Georgia knew if they beat Florida they had the inside track for a SEC East title.
The Georgia-Florida game was on CBS, and Georgia took the first lead and never looked back. Georgia beat Florida 37-17, their first win against UF since 1989 and their first win against Steve Spurrier.
The Bulldogs finished with a 10-2 record, the other loss was to Auburn, that REALLY put a dent to Georgia's season. They had everything on the line until they met Auburn.
Georgia played an exciting game against Georgia Tech to cap off the 1997. Georgia played Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl and won.
