And the Ivy League invented football

Not only were schools that are now in the Ivy League national champions in the early 1900s, but it was two Ivies that played the first game of what would become American football: Harvard and Yale in 1875.

Harvard had played McGill in 1874, but since it's Canadian it doesn't count. All of these games were using Rugby rules, the direct ancestor of the college football rules of today.
