AJ McCarron – One Game to Go

AJ McCarron will suit up one last time for Alabama in the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma and, while it's not the stage that he thought he would be departing from, he will still be going for the win to put the finishing touch to a very successful collegiate career.

The question that remains is what NCAAF stories will he leave behind for fans of the Tide?

The recent winner of the Maxwell Award is 36-3 as a starter with over 8,500 passing yards and 75:13 touchdowns to interceptions ratio. He also has three national titles (two as a starter) on his CV.

However, his impact should be looked atas a more than a plethora of statistics, numbers, and titles; he should be viewed as a winner who made Alabama a real force in college football and was a positive and evocative force off the field.

The conclusion of his collegiate career will come on the same field where he began to build his legend with a contest against the Sooners on the 2nd January at the Louisiana Superdome.

That legend was built on Saban and McCarron engineering a win over a powerful LSU side that had beaten them in Tuscaloosa some two month earlier.

In a stunning turnaround, Saban put the ball in McCarron's hands and he finished with 23-of-34 for 234 yards passing as the Crimson Tide ran out 21-0 winners. It was a performance that proved he could become a dominant performer on the big stage.

Over the last couple of years,fans who bet on NCAAF know that there have been plenty more memorable moments for AJ but how does he compare to the superstars in the NFL?

He doesn't have the "flash-and-dash" of Cam Newton or Robert Griffin III; he is perhaps more as a Sam Bradford or Andrew Luck type, although he won't necessarily be a No1 draft pick like those two were.

If he ends his career on a high note with a win over Oklahoma, he will exit Tuscaloosa with as many national championship rings as career losses and that should seal his place in Alabama history.
