Prediction:
Last week: 4-1
Season 44-10
Intriguing matchup in Nashville as Arkansas, still having faint hopes for the SEC West championship, rolls into town to play the Commodores.
Vandy looked good last week, but that was against Army. It will take an Army for the Doores to slow down Bobby Petrino's offense, and since the Black Knights left town Saturday night, Vandy will be in big trouble.
On the other side of the ball, Arkansas' defense currently resembles a block of Swiss Cheese and that should keep things close. However, Vanderbilt is one of those teams that will scare the heck out of you, then fall short of the upset. It happens every year and Saturday will be no different.
Sorry, President Adams, I am a traditionalist, so I will write that this IS the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party and I am happy it is here.
We have two teams going in opposite directions as Georgia has won five in a row, while Florida has lost three straight. Granted, UGA's victories have come against the worst teams in the SEC, while the Gators' losses have come against two of the best and then Auburn, which caught the Gators at the right time.
Georgia is solid at the quarterback position, while Florida has had to play musical quarterbacks due to injuries. Georgia is playing for the SEC Least championship. Florida is just hoping not to be mentioned in the same breath with Vandy, Kentucky and Tennessee.
With all that bad Ju Ju going against the Gators, fear not Swamp People because the Bulldogs will find a way to lose this one. Since 1990, UGA has only won three times in this series. There will not be a fourth in 2011.
Good news for the Wildcats, they are not the last placed team in the SEC Least. That distinction belongs to Tennessee by a half game. This week, the Cats try to put some distance between themselves and 6th place as they welcome the Bulldogs to Commonwealth Stadium.
This game has all the appeal of a Lou Holtz look-a-like contest. It also has the wit and sparkle of a Lou Holtz imitation contest, which, I have to admit, would be pretty funny.
As much as I would like to think the Big Blue has it turned around after last week, I just don't see it. However, I am not sold on Mississippi State and the struggles they have had this year.
What the hell, I have to pick an upset at least once this year, so look for the Cats to make it two in a row. Sorry, Smokey, the Vols are doomed to a last place finish.
You have to figure the Tigers will be stunned to see a normal, well, a below normal, team across the line from them on Saturday as Ole Miss comes to town.
After seeing the golden blur that was LSU, Auburn will do a double take since the Rebels will look like they are moving in slow motion. After they readjust to the Rebels lack of speed, they should coast in this one.
And for Ole Miss? They are slowly turning into the new Vanderbilt as consecutive SEC loss number 11 is on the way. The Houston Nutt Death March picks up steam in the Loveliest Village on the Plains..
Tennessee reminds of a quote from the late great Wade Garrett of the movie, Road House. "He's pretty good comin' out of the gate, but he ain't much for stamina."
If the Vols could get the game shortened to 30 minutes, this might be one helluva football team. However the games are 60 minutes long, and because of that, plus the depth and talent problems, the Big Orange tend to tire out around the third quarter.
Given that fact, and throw in a little matter of the Cocks being in contention in the SEC Least, I would say USC will get out of K-Town with a victory, despite not having All-Word Tailback, Marcus Lattimore.
I also heard that my Carolina buddy, "Saucy" Stephanie would be in Knoxville for the game. That alone should scare the coonskin caps off the Tennessee faithful. As I told, "The Saucy One" last summer, there will be more cock-a-doodling in Neyland Stadium than at a Foghorn Leghorn convention on Saturday night.
