2011 SEC Football Week 7 Preview

Week 7 Predictions

Last week: 5-1

Season: 36-8

Week 7 in the SEC doesn't offer much in the way of intriguing matchups. In fact, it is so bad that the CBS Game of the Week features a Tennessee team that can't run the ball back to the line of scrimmage.

Look at the other games and tell me if your man cave wouldn't look like Bob's Country Bunker when the Blues Brothers Band took the stage. Yes, it will be raining beer bottles all over the place so make sure to get some chicken wire around your TV by Saturday afternoon.

Oh well, it is the SEC, and on it's worst day, it will always be better than any other conference in the nation.

South Carolina at Mississippi State

We have a tale of two teams going in opposite directions. Mississippi State, who everyone thought might be a dark horse this year, has looked more like an ass as they have not played up to their potential.

Then you have South Carolina, who at times has also not lived up to their potential, but seemed to have righted the ship after last week's demolition of Kentucky, and new QB Connor Shaw leading the offense.

The Bulldogs usually play well in Starkville, but with another set of Bulldogs hot on their trail, I think Carolina knows they are in a must win game every week for the rest of the year.

Prediction: South Carolina 24 - Mississippi State 14

LSU at Tennessee

Florida dominated Tennessee worse than the ten-point difference would suggest. Then LSU and Bama beat the Gators by a combined 79-21 score in successive weeks. Guess who the next two opponents for the Vols are?

Tyler Bray, the Captain of the Good Ship Lollipop, has to be relived that he will not have to look across the line of scrimmage and see the ferocious Tiger pass rush since he has broken his thumb and is out for the next six weeks.

Vol fans know they have lost an important part of what they call an offense. Against Georgia, they couldn't run the ball. But they made up for it by not blocking.

Get ready, Knoxville, the first of two enormous blowouts happens this Saturday.

Prediction: LSU 38 - Tennessee 0

Alabama at Ole Miss

I am convinced when someone tells you to open up a can of whoop ass, the Alabama team jumps out. This week, they take their act on the road in Oxford as the Rebels are the next team to stand in their way of a November 5th showdown with LSU.

Let's look at the three game stretch for Bama for a minute, shall we? Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Who sets up the Tide schedule? The president of the Three Stooges Fan Club? If there were ever three stooges in a row for a national championship contender to have to face, we have it here.

Hey Moe! The Tide in a blowout! Nuk nuk nuk..

Prediction: Alabama 35 - Ole Miss 0

Florida at Auburn

Two programs, who are taking a backseat to the powers that be in the SEC, square off in Auburn for the right to be considered for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in a few months.

Florida has just run the gauntlet of LSU and Alabama, so they are looking forward to playing humans for a change. Auburn has had its ups and downs the past few weeks, and right now, they have a huge question mark at QB.

Barrett Trotter struggled last week and freshman Kiehl Frazier was not much better as the Tigers threw for only 104 yards. That will not get it done in the SEC.

Florida has QB issues of their own as injuries have the Gators scratching their heads as to who will take the field on Saturday, as well as Charlie Weis scratching his stomach wondering what the pre game buffet will be, but that's a different story.

I have a feeling Gene Chizik will go with the freshman this week, and if so, DOWN GOES FRAZIER.DOWN GOES FRAZIER!!!

Prediction: Florida 24 - Auburn 14

Georgia at Vanderbilt

The Bulldogs vanquished one of the Volunteer State teams last week, and now they go for the state championship as they head just a little further west to take on Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Vanderbilt gave Alabama all they could handle for thirty minutes, but ran out of gas. Georgia couldn't shake the Vols for the first thirty minutes before pulling away in the third quarter. Both teams looked about the same last week, only the opponent made it look vastly different.

What does that tell you? Not much really, except that Georgia has to be thankful they have Rocky Flop and the crew from the Titanic on their schedule in back to back weeks.

Vandy plays them tough, but they just don't have enough weapons to blow a hole in UGA's chances at a run for the SEC Eastern Division championship.

Prediction: Georgia 35 - Vanderbilt 14
