2007 Georgia vs Vanderbilt

In this game, Georgia was hoping to return the favor in beating Vanderbilt on their homecoming game. In 2006, Commodores beat the Bulldogs in Athens on Georgia’s homecoming weekend. So will Georgia return the favor? It’s October 13 on a warm evening in Nashville, a rare sellout which most of the fans were wearing red. Georgia is 4-2, 2-2 in conference play; Vanderbilt is 3-2, 1-2 in conference play.

In the 1st quarter Georgia got on the board first on a Sean Bailey’s 32 yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford. Prior to that, Vanderbilt’s Jeff Jennings fumbled the ball at the 33 yard line. Bulldogs’ Kade Weston recovered the ball, which was one of two fumbles that Vanderbilt had. Late in the 1st quarter, Vanderbilt got on the board with a Bryant Hahnfeldt’s 21 yard field goal to make a 7-3 Georgia lead.

In the 2nd quarter, Vanderbilt took the lead 10-7 on a Sean Walker’s 15 yard touchdown run. Vanderbilt late in the 2nd quarter increased their lead to 10 points when Sean Walker scored a 16 yard touchdown pass from Mackenzi Adams. The Bulldogs couldn’t score at all in the 2nd quarter.

In the 3rd quarter, Vanderbilt didn’t score at all; in fact they didn’t score again in the game. Georgia came back to cut the deficit to three, when Brannan Southerland scored a 1 yard touchdown run. Vanderbilt now leads 17-14.

Here we go to the 4th quarter where excitement happened for the Bulldogs. After both teams couldn’t score early in the 4th quarter, the Commodores thought they had this game wrapped up. It would be in the middle of the 4th when Brandon Coutu kicked a 31 yard field goal to tie the game. Georgia now tied the game! There were some nervous Commodores fans thinking it would be a lost for the Commodores. They thought maybe beating the Bulldogs two times in a row would be a big step for the program. It didn’t happen. Late in the 4th quarter, Commodores started to run the ball down the field and make something happen. Then the doom happen, Jackson Garriso ran for 11 yards to the Bulldogs 7 yard line. He fumbles the ball! Georgia’s Dannell Ellerbe recovers the ball at the 7 yard line! Georgia NOW HAS LIFE!! Georgia then started to run the ball down the field by Knowshon Moreno’s rushing and Matthew Stafford’s passing. Bulldogs managed to get down to Vanderbilt’s 20 yard line. At the 19 yard line with 3 seconds left, Brandon Coutu kicked a 37 yard field goal and wins it for the Bulldogs!

Georgia returned the favor and beats Vanderbilt on their homecoming 20-17.

Fans couldn’t believe it; they thought Vanderbilt would pull through and win. Georgia denied Vanderbilt their most crucial win of the year. Georgia made a great comeback win in Nashville where they usually win big time.

2007 season was an incredible season for the Bulldogs as UGA went on to play play in the Sugar Bowl and beat Hawaii.
